So, I hear complaining about other people updating blogs, but come on, M and D have always posted more. Since I really have nothing to say, I am just going to tell you about the lovely Utah state holiday this weekend. I'm sure you all wanted a history lesson, right? Mormon pioneers settled the Salt Lake Valley in July 1847. The first settlers got there on the 23rd, but Brigham Young got there and decided they would settle there on the 24th. So now July 24th is pioneer day/ days of '47. There is a parade, fireworks, official holiday on Monday, basically a repeat of independance day only two weeks later.
I have to say that I enjoy having the extra holiday, although I am spending them about the same way. The weekend of the 4th I was running a set of experiments on the instruments in my dept. This weekend I am running the same experiments at a higher magnetic field up in biochem. Sounds fun, huh? I only have to check on stuff once a day, and go in Monday morning to save the data and get my sample back. Also gives me something to do for the next week, and theoretically could result in a paper. The (optimistic) plan is to get a paper submitted before the fall semester starts. Still don't TA assignments yet, so I can't really plan on anything for sure in the fall.
Since this is a holiday weekend, and I am not as much of a workaholic as some people, I am going to a movie this afternoon:) Graduate school and flexible hours are awesome sometimes!
